Definition of Colo (Colocation)
A server, (typically an application Server, Web Server, Email Server, Citrix Server or Terminal Server) is located at a dedicated facility designed with resources which include a rack, regulated power, fast and redundant internet connection, security and managed support. These co-location facilities offer our clients in Central Texas: Austin and San Antonio a secure place to physically house their servers as opposed to locating it in their offices or warehouse where the potential for fire, theft, security or downtime is much greater.
Most co-location facilities offer high-security, including cameras, fire detection and extinguishing devices, multiple connection feeds, filtered power, backup power generators and other items to ensure high-availability which is mandatory for all businesses. The term co-location is also known as colo or Co-Lo.
Colocation of your server in Austin or San Antonio is also beneficial if you do not have the resources to manage, maintain, patch or upgrade the server. |

What is the difference between a co-location and dedicated server?
Co-location in Austin and San Antonio means you store your own server at a facility of a co-location provider. Dedicated Server is a server provided by Network Logistic, Inc. (NLI) for you to rent. You have remote access to the server and you can customize the server to your own needs. Different plans can be available where you would rent to own or just rent the server. When you rent or rent to own, the server is owned by Network Logistic, Inc. until all obligations and payments are fulfilled.
More Information:
At NLI Colocation in Austin and San Antonio, you can rent everything from rack space, to internet bandwidth to power. You have the peace of mind in knowing that your servers and Internet appliances are under 24 hour surveillance. Cabinets and cages have individual key locks. Your server will optionally have battery backup so that the electronic equipment is shielded from power dips and spikes. In the event of a transmission line loss, the UPS start automatically to run the Server until utility power is restored.
Environmental control is as important as power conditioning. Network Logistic controls its facility and keeps it to 67 degrees 24x7
If a fire, flood or windstorm strikes your town, you could be out of business for days or weeks. With redundant offsite facilities, you may be able to switchover to your backup system in a relatively short amount of time.
Another major advantage of NLI colocation centers in Austin is that they provide ready access to reasonably priced bandwidth. As your business grows and your bandwidth demands exceed what you can get with T1 and bonded T1 lines, you may find higher bandwidth increments expensive and hard to come by. Austin is well connected with infrastructure, but smaller towns don't necessarily have fiber optic rings in place. Even if fiber is close by, costs to extend it to your building might be extensive.
At NLI – our Colocation facility in Austin is wired with FIBER coming into the building. You may also arrange to add your own T1 or your own dedicated Fiber. Most everything can be customized.
